Backstory:

Deshanna's great-niece - the Keeper raised her

Her mother wasn't from Clan Lavellan, although they took her in during her pregnancy. She left once Ellana was born.

Her father died when disease struck the clan one winter

Shortly before taking her vallaslin, humans assault Ellana and her friend, leaving the other girl dead

AN: had no idea this would end up being kind of a ripoff of Tabris' whole deal (played Inquisition first) but for ME it was canon for Lavellan first

Ellana goes against Deshanna's explicit orders, finding and killing the assailants in revenge

She is banished from the Dalish clan without her vallaslin and forbidden to enter their camps as punishment, although when she follows behind the clan she finds offerings clearly meant for her at the camp boudanries' statues of Fen'Harel.

Sometimes, she even finds notes with the names of other humans who have harmed the elves. A series of mysterious murders with no identifiable culprit follows just behind Clan Lavellan, but it's not a MEMBER of the clan doing the killing...
