marian hawke

backstory

Backstory:

Raised moving from town to town to keep Malcolm and Bethany's magic from being discovered, Marian quickly learned to keep an eye out for her family.

When Cailan called for an army to march to Ostagar, Marian accompanied Carver, who was eager to prove himself. Rather than trying to keep up with him on the battlefield, Marian's skills were put to use as a scout, clearing and securing the paths that the rank & file would march through and assessing the battlefields to create openings for the heavy lifters to strike. Her personal motto was that she would never send "her boys" (broadly, the units she worked with, but ultimately Carver represented all of them in her mind) anywhere she wouldn't go or hadn't already been herself. Marian prided herself on the fact that her decisions had never cost them anyone's life - until the fight at Ostagar turned, and her decision to take Carver and run ultimately led to his death.

Skills/Hobbies:

Relationships:

would take a sword through the neck for one another, don't know each other's favorite colors: Aveline

platonic soulmates: Varric

frenemies: Isabela (high degree of mutual respect but parentified-child Marian can't understand/is potentially a little jealous of Isabela's more self-serving actions)

"i can fix him" project(s) of all time: fenris (can kind of fix) / anders* (unfixable)

*i accidentally romanced anders the first time i played simply by not being a raging douche to him so although i ultimately restarted the game to romance fenris like i intended to in the first place i thought he deserved a shoutout. #magewrongs

Major Players in the Hawke family

Leandra

Malcolm

Bethany: Marian's younger sister, Carver's twin. The two girls' relationship was always closer than Marian's relationship with Carver, as Bethany was generally less hot-headed and had always internalized (perhaps to an unhealthy degree) that she should be grateful for her siblings' protection of her.

Carver: Marian's younger brother, Bethany's twin. He and Marian got along well enough, but clashed semi-frequently as he felt that he didn't need as much protection as Bethany and Marian was therefore babying him because she thought he was weak and needed to prove himself.
